Cleanup effort focuses on education, environmental impact
With a donkey wagon trailing behind, a group of children walked the edges of St. Cloud Road, turning a cleanup effort into a hands-on lesson about the environment.
The cleanup event, hosted by Richmond Regenerative Agriculture at Slow Walk Slopes Farm, focused on environmental stewardship, recycling education and hands-on learning. Organized by Sydney Kotow and Jeff McFadden, the effort aimed to teach participants, especially children, about caring for the land while addressing ongoing litter concerns along the rural roadway and nearby waterways.
Four children and two adults took part in the cleanup, working along- side organizers to collect and sort debris while learning the way different materials are handled after removal from the environment.
“We gave them recycled feed bags to put the trash in, so we try not to buy new trash bags,” said Kotow. “Then we put barrels in the back of the donkey wagon and we labeled them glass, plastic, aluminum and steel.”
