I’m getting senile.
I thought that after making the latest sports-related road trip with coworker Miranda Jamison (a.k.a., “MJ”). On Feb. 21, after covering Richmond and Excelsior Springs/Excelsior Springs and Richmond in district boys wrestling, she and I covered minor-league hockey in Independence. Desi Escriva, MJ’s fella, graciously was our chauffeur.
Somehow, as I photographed the Kansas City Mavericks and Wichita Thunder clashing on the ice – and then watched while MJ photographed them – I got the team uniforms mixed up. I thought the Mavericks were wearing the white jerseys (a.k.a., “sweaters”) with the blue pants (a.k.a., “breezers”) and Wichita was clad in olive green. Hence, I was perplexed when the packed house at Cable Dahmer Arena erupted when the game-winning goal was scored by the green-clad team in overtime.
