RHS girls take sixth at Lexington
LEXINGTON – For her final girls wrestling competition of 2025, Richmond sophomore Taylor Baker wanted to win a minimum of two matches by technical fall.
Baker did so. She did something else: She also won her weight class.
Competing Dec. 23 at the Drew Emerson Invitational at Lexington High School, Baker went 5-0 to claim the 155-pound title. After defeating Lexington’s Chloe Ebert by an 18-1 tech fall, she won three straight matches by first-period pin, then capped her championship run with a 17-2 tech fall victory over Excelsior Springs’ Makynlei Craig.
When asked about the keys to getting the tech fall against Craig, Baker replied: “Well, I watched her feet. And I was using misdirection so she would step towards me, so I could get my shots. And I just needed to keep cutting her, because she wasn’t being very aggressive. So I knew I could get my shots worked in; and I knew that, to actually get the tech, I would have to get some turns and hold her without pinning her.”
