Second half gets away from Spartans in third-place game
HIGGINSVILLE – The Spartans lost their way during the second half of their 70-52 loss to Lafayette County of Higginsville in the varsity boys third-place game in the Husker Classic, Richmond coach Brent Behler and senior guard Nolan Quick agreed.
“The third quarter, we played like we didn’t know how to play basketball and then just didn’t give effort,” Quick said.
“We were lazy and too concerned about what everybody else was doing, instead of doing our own job,” Behler said.
Behler and Quick also indicated that the Spartans did their jobs during the first half of the Dec. 13 meeting in Higginsville. In doing their jobs, the Spartans held brief leads during the first quarter. It was knotted at 11 at quarter’s end. A two-point bucket by Richmond junior Brice Dome during the final minute helped secure the tie.
