The Suns of Eugene find rhythm through songwriting, connection

With roots in Missouri and a sound blending country, rock and Midwestern blues, The Suns of Eugene are carving out their own place in the Americana music scene. What began as a creative outlet for songwriter and guitarist Jeremy Dorrel has grown into a full band known for heartfelt lyrics, high-energy performances and a genuine connection with audiences. “I started playing music when I was around 25, kind of late in life,” said Dorrel. “What really drew me in wasn’t the performance part at first; it was the art of writing songs. I’vealways been creative and it just clicked. Me, a guitar and words written down, that’s where it started.” The band’s name carries a personal meaning for Dorrel, who chose to honor his father, Francis Eugene, by naming the group after him. Rather than using the traditional spelling “sons,” he opted for “suns” to give it a more artistic touch and to reflect the warmth and light that music brings.
