KATHLEEN GAYLE BRODERICK
April 30, 1960 – June 19, 2025
Kathleen Gayle Broderick, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, left this world peacefully in her sleep the morning of June 19, 2025. The daughter of Robert and Elizabeth Krepon, Kathleen was born in Boston and moved to Wichita, Kan., when she was 8 years old. After attending All Saints Catholic School, Kathleen attended Kapaun Mount Carmel High School for three years, where she met her future husband, David AJ. She then completed her final year at Goddard High School.
She was a woman of utmost strength, charm and unwavering love, sometimes joking that she left her career in insurance because raising three lively “Killer Bs” was a full-time job all on its own.
Kathleen is survived by her devoted husband, David AJ Broderick; three children, Brianna Portmann (and Renee), Blythe Minnick (and Clint) and Blaine Broderick (and Mark McQueary); two grandchildren, Ren and Ensley Minnick; and siblings, Karen Richardson, Jon Krepon and Rick Linder.
Kathleen was the ultimate champion of Brianna, Blythe and Blaine, always in the stands, along the dugout or walking along the cart path, cheering loudly for her children’s sports, school events and life’s many adventures. She had a knack for negotiating Dad’s “no” into a “yes” – a skill she perfected and used often, much to her children’s delight when wanting something David AJ had already denied.
Throughout her life, Kathleen maintained and lived up to her role as the family’s rock, keeping the house well-maintained and clean, with laundry folded and spotless after enduring endless grass and dirt stains, and meals prepared with love and care. Her kitchen was always open to family and friends, her heart even more so, and her home was a sanctuary of warmth and laughter.
A dedicated mother and wife, Kathleen’s most tremendous pride and joy was her family. She was our biggest fan, our confidant and the one who always knew just what to say or do, whether it was providing a comforting hug, a gentle nudge in the right direction or a quick flick on the cheek when we said something we knew we shouldn’t have. Her compassionate spirit and boundless generosity touched everyone she knew.
Though she has left us early, her spirit and kind heart remain alive in the memories we cherish and the stories we share. Her legacy is one of love, resilience and being known for having a good time, reminding us to find joy even in life’s busiest moments.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, for family and friends at Meyers Funeral Chapel Northland, 401 Main St., Parkville, where we will gather to honor her incredible journey and the beautiful person she was that impacted all those around her.
