Guilty plea leads to 30-year sentence
A child sex abuse case that once involved 11 felony charges ended with a 30-year prison sentence for an Orrick man after a plea agreement allowed most charges to be dismissed.
Cody L. Ryan, 31, was sentenced June 11 in Ray County Circuit Court to two consecutive 15-year terms in the Missouri Department of Corrections. He pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a victim younger than 14.
In exchange for his plea, the state dismissed the remaining charges: six counts of first-degree sodomy or attempted sodomy, two additional counts of first-degree sexual abuse involving a child under 14 and one count of first-degree sexual misconduct involving a child under 15.
Eighth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Kevin L. Walden granted the state’s motion to enter a nolle prosequi on those charges, officially dismissing them the same day Ryan was sentenced.
