Commissioners face public records, easement questions
A local resident recently attended a Ray County Commissioners meeting to demand answers rather than ask questions.
Only identifying himself as “ Raven”, the local man described a wave of frustrated residents and challenged Ray County commissioners over blocked access to public records, inconsistent publication of legal notices and a pattern of bureaucratic roadblocks that leave citizens in the dark.
“I’ve had 17 concerned citizens who have come to me and asked me to retrieve information,” said Raven. “It’s very hard to get answers around here.”
Commissioners listened without interruption and later confirmed they were already consulting with legal counsel to clarify at least one issue Raven raised – a long-standing 60-foot road easement policy. Raven noted it took two years to get documentation on that ordinance after hearing conflicting answers from county departments.
“Every road in this county is 60 feet wide,” said Raven. “Why is that?”
