Another Orrick football player is taking his game to college. Jaxon Miller has signed to play for Benedictine College. The Ravens’ roster includes Blake Buchanan, a 2022 Orrick graduate. Having Buchanan as a teammate again heavily influenced Miller’s decision to attend Benedictine, he said shortly after graduating high school May 12. But there were other reasons he chose the Atchison, Kan.based NAIA program. “The coaches were very … inviting,” said Miller, who also considered Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. “They were very nice. … They, like, seemed so connected together. It just seemed like a family there.” Miller expects Buchanan to be helpful in transitioning from playing 8-man football, as he did in high school, to 11-man football at Benedictine. “He’s a friend I’ve had for many years and he’ll just take me under his wing and just teach me his ways out there,” he said.
