Tequila Jalisco remains closed following fire
RICHMOND – A fire closed the Tequila Jalisco Mexican Restaurant on East South Street.
The Feb. 27 fire affected the restaurant’s interior, with no damage visible outside.
Richmond Fire Chief Mark Sowder provided a report that states smoke could be seen coming from a metal vent on the roof, with smoke also in the building.
“A fire crew advanced a hose line to the roof and extinguished the exhaust vent that was burning from above,” the report states. “A fire crew made entry through the open back door to the kitchen area below the exhaust unit that was burning and pulled the ceiling tile down, finding active fire burning in that section above the ceiling. That fire was extinguished, and crews began salvage and overhaul, and removal of smoke from the building.”
Investigators determined a fryer under the ventilation hood system had caused the fire.
