RICHMOND – A planned discussion about an appointee to the Law Enforcement Restitution Committee, Rachelle Berry, drew several attendees to the Feb. 22 Ray County Commission meeting. Sheriff Scott Childers had been expected to discuss the appointment, but he did not show for the meeting. Berry questioned why she had received no notification that commissioners planned to talk about her. She appeared with fellow Democrats, including former Sheriff Garry Bush. Whether a Missouri Ethics Commission complaint against Berry – as the “person making expenditures” for the Ray County Citizens Coalition against the jail tax – led to the call to discuss the appointment is unclear. Childers declined comment Friday about Berry and whether he knew about the ethics finding.
