Chat powers Richmond girls to back-to-back wins over Lexington
RICHMOND – A talk after the Spartans’ 47-23 Feb. 8 road loss to Holden in varsity girls basketball helped motivate them to romp past Lexington twice in two nights: 52-23 Feb. 10 at Lexington and 49-22 Feb. 11 at home.
“Not that we didn’t play hard, because we did. We just didn’t shoot the ball very well and Holden put it on us pretty good,” Richmond coach Chad Snyder said after the second Lexington win. “Took a day to just kind of talk, and I really thought our mentality … at practice and then heading into the game Thursday night against Lexington was good. I thought we shot the ball well last night and I thought we shot the ball pretty well tonight.”
During the chat, Snyder “told us we could win. … (We just needed) better ball movement, penetration, (to) kick the ball out, hit our shots,” sophomore guard Sydney Appleberry said.
Snyder gave the Spartans “a lot of advice … (on) how to move and get open and work against the defense,” and they devoted practice reps to those areas,…
