Spartans dominate Lexington on road, at home

RICHMOND – The Spartans’ 53-26 win Feb. 10 and 57-38 win Feb. 11 had a few factors in common. Both wins were against the same team – Lexington, with the first meeting at Lexington and the second at home for Richmond’s courtwarming. Richmond also pulled away in the second half of both meetings for a double-digit win. Both Missouri River Valley Conference East Division victories shared something else, Richmond varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Jermain said. “A definite similarity was just the struggle offensively,” Jermain said. “They play a tough defense – they really try to take our bigs away – and when you don’t shoot well against it, it’s hard to score. And we didn’t shoot very well the first half.” Another similarity was the go-to Spartan in both victories. Junior post player Jack Gogue was co-leader in scoring the first meeting with 17 points.
