Spartan softballers one and done; Bulldogs survive into next round

RAY COUNTY – One area varsity softball team survived the first round of districts. One did not. Richmond’s season ended with a 6-1 loss to Macon Tuesday at Chillicothe in the Class 3 District 8 Tournament. The Spartans finished 14-15 – their first losing season since 2018, when they finished 11-14. The district appearance followed an Oct. 9 appearance in the Benton Tournament in St. Joseph. Richmond went 2-2, defeating Bishop LeBlond of St. Joseph 5-0 and East Buchanan 6-1, and falling to Polo 10-7 and Savannah 5-4. Hardin-Central, on the other hand, advanced to the Class 1 District 12 semifinals with an 8-3 win Tuesday over Hale/Bosworth at Norborne. “It was kind of ugly,” Doyle, a Richmond High School graduate, said.
