KANSAS CITY – The Department of Homeland Security’s Transportation Security Administration increased the range of civil penalties that may be imposed on individuals who violate the federal mask mandate for transportation. Masks are required at airports, on commercial aircraft and in various modes of surface transportation, including passenger railroads, intercity bus services and other forms of public transportation. The federal mask mandate for transportation, implemented Feb. 2 by the TSA, will remain in effect until Jan. 18. The new penalties are $500 to $1,000 for first offenders and $1,000 to $3,000 for second offenders. “Wearing a mask protects the traveling public and all of the personnel who make the travel experience safe, secure and comfortable,” Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro N.
