Richmond schools’ tech use goes long way in short time
RICHMOND – Use of technology in the Richmond School District has come a long way in a short time, Superintendent Greg Darling said Sept. 10.
“A lot has been done here in the last year-and-a-half with our technology to do a lot of good things,” Darling said.
“Good things” include the availability of laptops for students’ home use, as approved by the school board, Darling said.
“That was a great thing,” he said.
Darling credited district Technology Director Brian Long with handling the overall job of making technology work smoothly within the district.
Darling also praised teachers for handling teaching via technology during the COVID-19 pandemic. Like language immersion, where a person who speaks one language goes to another country and learns a different language by mixing with native speakers, many Richmond teachers had to learn from scratch how to provide meaningful computer-assisted instruction.
