Richmond has officially completed one of the largest investments in its water distribution system after replacing approximately 3.7 miles of aging water mains throughout the city.

Richmond City Council members recently approved a $29,304.50 final change order, authorized a $321,626.15 final payment to V.F. Anderson Builders, formally accepted the completed water main replacement project and authorized staff to close out the construction contract.

The project replaced approximately 19,550 linear feet of aging water main throughout Richmond. Work also included replacing fire hydrants, valves and water service connections, along with pavement restoration associated with the water main installation.

According to city documents, the project represents one of the largest investments the city has made in its water distribution system and is expected to improve system reliability, reduce future maintenance costs and provide better water service to residents.
