A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 26 for James Wayne Woodruff Sr., who faces 11 felony charges including second- degree rape. Woodruff, 68, of Wood Heights, Woodruff was in court Aug. 22 with his new public defender, Robert Walden-Chastain, where both defendant and counsel requested a preliminary hearing. Woodruff has been in custody at the Ray County Jail as a result of intel received by law enforcement regarding criminal activity occurring in the Koala Circle area of Wood Heights last month. Following an investigation and execution of a search warrant, Ray County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) deputies arrested Woodruff in June and again in July for crimes committed while he was released on his own recognizance (ROR). In the first case, Woodruff faces felony charges of second-degree rape and three counts of possession of controlled substances, as well as a misdemeanor third-degree kidnapping charge.
