Medlin looks to lead Ray County prosecutor’s office

Ray County voters will choose a new prosecuting attorney this year, though only one candidate has filed to seek the office in the August election.

Tara Medlin is pursuing the position of Ray County prosecutor in the Aug. 4 election. The office is currently held by Camille Johnston, who did not file for re-election.

Medlin, 45, moved to Richmond in 2025 after commuting from Salisbury for two years. She grew up in Marceline and graduated from Marceline High School in 1999. She earned her Juris Doctor from Saint Louis University School of Law and currently serves as an assistant prosecutor in the Ray County Prosecutor’s Office.

Before joining the office in 2023, she worked as a Missouri public defender from 2019 to 2023 and practiced civil law in St. Louis from 2017 to 2019. Prior to law school, she worked in law enforcement and emergency services for 10 years. She has an 18-year-old daughter, Ainsley, and has been married to Christopher Weimer since 2024.
