Two candidates are seeking the nomination for Ray County recorder as voters prepare to cast ballots in the Aug. 4 primary election.

Incumbent Rhonda Kinnison and Heather Maulsby are competing in the Republican primary. No Democratic candidate filed for the office, meaning the winner of the primary will run unopposed in the November general election.

Kinnison, 67, of Richmond, is a lifelong Ray County resident and graduate of Richmond High School. She served 20 years as deputy recorder before being elected recorder in 2023. She is married to Guy, and together they have five grown children: Ryan Cooper, Greg Cooper, Kelli Cooper-Clariday, Laura Schmidt and Jason Kinnison.
