Humane Society meets with commissioners

Seeking partnership, the Humane Society of Ray County (HSRC) personnel met with Ray County Commissioners Billy Gaines and Dave Powell last week to discuss the Humane Society county-owned building’s state of disrepair. Atalie Blackwell, Jennifer Mills and Clare Flamank talked about the current state of the building – especially the roof. Blackwell explained the roof has places where the outside is visible, water comes in from the rain and at any given time, she believes it will cave in. She said her last estimate was $70,000. The trio of ladies also asked what the county’s plans were with the building if they were to leave. As of now, the commissioners said there are no plans and are even considering selling to HSRC if they are interested. Powell said the county has replaced roofs in the recent past and will get someone to estimate the HSRC roof in the next few weeks. “We are here to discuss working with you, as a team, to address some concerns we have regarding our building,”…
