Aggressive dogs at residence in Wood Heights

Body

A male Amazon driver was found dead, laying in a Wood Heights resident’s yard near Route O after a call to authorities around 7 p.m. Monday night.

The neighbors said the Amazon van had been parked since 5 p.m. and they found it suspicious it was still there a few hours later, Ray County Sheriff Scott Childers said.

“We went out. My deputy saw a body lying in the yard between the van and house. The house was fenced in and the gate was shut,” Childers said.

Two full-grown dogs, a mastiff and a German Shepherd, were within the fenced gate acting severely aggressive, according to Childers. The deputy shot at one, injuring it and the two dogs ran around the house.

The sheriff mentioned he went around the house and there was a “doggy door” on the south side of the house and he saw blood.

Due to exigent circumstances, Childers entered the house, and for the safety of himself and his team, he dispatched the dogs. The remains were sent in for a necropsy. They will investigate them for rabies, swab their mouths and check their stomachs, he said.

“It was a pretty sad deal,” Childers commented about the night.

Childers said the injuries on the male might be consistent with dog bites but cannot be confirmed until an autopsy is completed.
