911 Board chooses new member, officers

RICHMOND – The 911 Board lost a member, added a member and named officers for the coming year. Board President Paul Harris announced member Bob McClelland had resigned “due to medical issues, effective immediately.” Harris recommended Lawson City Administrator Matt Nolker to replace McClelland. Board member Lee O’Dell recommended Excelsior Springs Police Sgt. Joe Cline to replace McClelland. When Harris called for a secret ballot vote, this newspaper suggested the vote should be public. Harris said the board relied on statutes to allow the vote. An audience member wanted to hear the statute. Harris read the statute that made clear the board could replace the member. This newspaper suggested the public board had the right to replace the member, but not to cast a secret ballot. Harris called for a show of hands, with Nolker winning the seat 3-2.
