4-H youth compete in State 4-H Hippology Contest
COLUMBIA – A dozen youth applied their knowledge of horses at the University of Missouri Extension State 4-H Hippology Contest, held virtually April 10-11.
Most participants shared knowledge in areas such as equine confirmation, behavior, equipment, diseases, anatomy, terminology and characteristics. All participants said they seek to learn more about agriculture, consider themselves advocates for agriculture, feel educated about agricultural products and are comfortable sharing their knowledge of agriculture with others. Ninety percent seek a career in agriculture.
The top junior competitors, ages 8-13, included Alaina Lehman, Ray County, third place. The top junior team was Tri-County Hippology A, represented by Lehman; Malia Fairchild, Ray County; and Abigail White, Lafayette County.
FCS Financial, Missouri Farm Bureau, Cynthia O’Bryan and the Missouri 4-H Foundation sponsored the 2021 Missouri 4-H State Horse Bowl Contest.
