Winter weather wipes out week

Area high school sports teams got an unexpected week off from competition last week. And for some area coaches, it was an unwanted week off from competition. The following is a breakdown of how the programs were affected, with some reactions from coaches: RICHMOND WRESTLING Last week’s winter storm and near- and sub-zero temperatures wiped out a Jan. 9 home triangular with Carrollton and Chillicothe; a Jan. 11 dual hosted by St. Michael the Archangel, a private, Lee’s Summit-based school; and the Missouri River Valley Conference-East Division Tournament, scheduled for Jan. 13 at Lafayette County of Higginsville. “This week, I think, has been a big setback,” Spartans coach Cody Hogan stated Jan. 12 via email. “It’s never the greatest thing to have a week off during a main portion of the season.
