After two weeks of varsity 8-man football, the sporting press is placing Orrick among the state’s elite football programs. The Week 3 media poll, posted Monday online, ranked the Bearcats 10th. They helped secure their spot with their 82-30 thumping of College Heights Christian Sept. 2 – the same night they honored a longtime supporter of Orrick athletics. “We’ll take the ranking, but we’re not … (satisfied) with that at all,” coach Kirk Thacker said Monday by phone. “We think we’re … (a pretty good team) and we just want to prove it.” At halftime of the home meeting, the Bearcats paid tribute to Ritchie Vick, Thacker confirmed Tuesday via text message.
