TRI-COUNTY 13U SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
Richmond 1-Ellis Farms “came a long way” this softball season, according to Carleigh Stamper, the ballclub’s hardswatting catcher.
That long journey ended Tuesday night at Southview Park with Richmond 1 sweeping Ludlow 1 18-17 and then 10-5 for the Tri-County 13U Softball Tournament title.
Winning the title means “more than words can explain,” said Stamper, who’ll be an eighth-grader this fall at Richmond Middle School.
“It’s amazing,” she said.
The journey to the title was “incredible,” coach Ron Maulsby said.
“I loved watching the girls fight all summer,” Maulsby said.
As Maulsby mentioned, the Richmond 1 girls – one of two Richmond-based teams in the eight-team, double-elimination postseason tournament – “fought their way up out of the loser’s bracket” to become champions. After opening June 18 with a 16-5 win over Braymer 1, Richmond 1 lost 12-3 to Ludlow 1 that day. Richmond 1 rebounded and closed that first day with a 9-7 win over Richmond 2-Community Realty.
