RICHMOND – Coach Kevin Jermain and his Spartans got their district threepeat in boys basketball. They got their second straight sectional championship, too. After downing Odessa 50-33 March 4 at Oak Grove for the Class 4 District 15 title, Richmond defeated St. Joseph Lafayette 52-48 Tuesday night in sectionals at Liberty North High School. With Tuesday’s win, the Spartans avenged a 56-44 Feb. 22 road loss to the Fighting Irish to close the regular season. Richmond also advanced to play Pembroke Hill at 2:45 p.m. Saturday at Blue Springs High School in the Class 4 state quarterfinals. “Just credit our guys,” Jermain told UClickTV and MSHSAA TV, which carried the live stream. “They really stepped up to the moment, and what an awesome win for our program.” Richmond, 22-5, rallied twice to advance.
