Thacker sees progress, some ‘rust’ in ’Cats

Orrick varsity 8-man football coach Kirk Thacker was pleased with what his Bearcats accomplished during their junior high and varsity team camp last week. “(We) got a lot done,” said Thacker, a Richmond High School alumnus, as camp was winding down June 16 on the team practice field. “I mean, we really did. … We were farther ahead (this time) last year than we were the year before, and we’re even farther ahead this year on getting things accomplished. (The) boys are familiar with everything and know the expectations and were able to go to work right off.” The Bearcats “worked a lot harder” during their latest camp than they had their previous one, according to Jonathon Harris, who ran the first-team offense at quarterback. That didn’t mean, however, that the five-day camp wasn’t enjoyable. “I loved it,” said Harris, who’ll be a senior this fall.
