Stingy Spartans sweep homestand
RICHMOND – The Spartans were stingy defensively during their latest homestand.
In sweeping four varsity baseball games at Southview Park, the Spartans allowed only five runs. They capped their sweep Monday with a 5-1 nonconference win over Lawson (the junior varsity lost 12-4).
Junior starting pitcher Lucas Rodenberg led Richmond to victory, striking out eight, and allowing five walks and three hits, along with the lone Lawson run. Sophomore reliever Josh Pyle tossed a one-hitter in his two innings, with two strikeouts, two walks and a wild pitch, for the save.
Junior shortstop Spencer Wolf and senior catcher Lance Rogers led Richmond offensively with two hits apiece.
Wolf also scored Richmond’s first run by getting on base with a walk. He then reached second base on a wild pitch, stole third and scored on Rodenberg’s ground out in the bottom of the first.
