During his time in 11man football, Richmond varsity coach Nick Persell has seen his share of crazy endings to games. TheendingtoRichmond’s Week 3 34-28 comeback road victory over Marshall, however, is among the craziest, he said. For those who didn’t see the Sept. 12 meeting in person or via video streaming, it went like this … Richmond and Marshall were knotted at 28 with less than 10 seconds to play. The Spartans had the ball at the Marshall 27-yard line. Facing third-and-10, Spartans quarterback Jacob Lieberknecht threw downfield for Nolan Quick. Quick caught the ball around the Marshall 10, but he was hit on the reception. Wanting to give Richmond the chance to win it in regulation and trying to stay on his feet, the senior lateraled toward teammate and fellow receiver Brice Dome. The ball appeared to hit the ground.
