Spartans waste little time in silencing Panthers
OAK GROVE – Richmond didn’t need much time to score on Oak Grove, particularly during the first half.
The Spartans ran 12 first-half plays from scrimmage. By contrast, Oak Grove ran 45. And the Spartans used those handful of plays to build a 31-0 halftime lead en route to winning the Sept. 2 Missouri River Valley Conference interdivisional varsity football meeting 39-0.
“Our offense was clicking. … I think our first four touchdowns only took, like, seven or eight plays,” senior wideout Trevin Quick said after the road victory. “So … that tells you about all you need to know.”
Senior quarterback Donivin Williams directed the quick-striking attack, primarily through the air. Unofficially, Williams completed eight of 15 passes for 324 yards and four touchdowns, including six of nine for 286 yards the first half.
“I had a lot of trust in our line and our receivers to catch the ball, and I just threw it to where they were supposed to be,” he said. “And they were there.”
