Spartans sweep Eagles, claim MRVC East title

RICHMOND – Coach Nick Persell knew his Spartans needed to win at least one of this week’s games with Holden for an outright Missouri River Valley Conference East Division varsity baseball championship. They won both. A 5-3 victory Monday at Holden gave Richmond the title, the program’s first since 2012, senior pitcher and infielder Lucas Rodenberg said. The Spartans punctuated their championship Tuesday with a 1-0 Senior Night win at Southview Park. They finished MRVC East play 9-1, with their only loss coming on April 4 to visiting Knob Noster.
