Spartans go on the offensive to start camp
Offense is a focal point for Richmond varsity football coach Nick Persell and his Spartans for their first set of team camp sessions.
“We’re installing all of our base run game, some of our pass concepts as well,” Persell said moments after the opening session had ended Monday on the team’s practice field.
The approach is consistent with the way the Spartans have prepared for seasons during Persell’s tenure, in keeping with his approach to offense, he suggested.
“Offensively, it’s running the football and controlling the clock and making big plays in the pass game when they’re available,” Persell said.
Jacob Lieberknecht, who’ll be a sophomore this fall, is among the skill position players getting reps on offense. As a quarterback, Lieberknecht doesn’t mind that his duties include handing off the football frequently, he said.
“When our running backs and our linemen really get going and we are beating a team … up front, we will be able to do what we want to (do to) them the rest…
