Season ends for RHS boys netters in districts
Richmond must wait until next season to get its first district dual victory since 2018 in varsity boys tennis.
The Spartans sought that win Monday, when they hosted Boonville at Maurice Roberts Park in the dual, or “team,” portion of the Class 1 District 4 Tournament. They lost 5-0.
Richmond coach Zachary Baldauf was pleased with the team’s performances in doubles.
“We haven’t always had good doubles matches, so that was very heartening to see,” Baldauf said. “We had good stuff going there.”
In singles, the Spartans “ran into a couple guys where their guys just played really well,” according to Baldauf.
“Sometimes, that’s just what it is,” he said.
The defeat ended Richmond’s season at 9-8. Those nine wins are the most for the program since at least 2011, according to Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) records.
“I’ve been really proud of this group of guys,” Baldauf said.
