Richmond senior signs with Jewell men’s golf

RICHMOND – Timmy Hamilton is trading Spartan red for Cardinal red. The Richmond senior has committed to playing men’s golf at William Jewell College, an NCAA Division II program, in Liberty. On April 21, Richmond High staged a letter-of-intent signing ceremony. Jewell was among a few schools Hamilton considered. Missouri State in Springfield, the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg and the University of Missouri in Columbia were the others, he said. “I just ultimately decided that Jewell’s golf program was probably a better fit for me,” Hamilton said. Richmond boys and girls golf coach Murray Dennis said Jewell is a good fit for Hamilton because of his familiarity with Cardinals coach Craig Sager. Dennis coached Sager in high school at Trenton. “I don’t think I coached him in golf,” Dennis said. “I think I coached him in basketball.” Sager is a “good guy,” Hamilton said. “He tells it like it is,” he said. “He’s very upfront.
