Richmond routs KN; Cringan gets first pick

Years from now, Jake Cringan will have a story to tell his kids and grandkids about something he did during Richmond’s Oct. 13 home victory over Knob Noster in varsity 11-man football. Late in the third quarter, the senior defensive and sometimes offensive lineman intercepted a pass – his firstever interception, he said. In doing so, Cringan helped Richmond run away with the Missouri River Valley Conference (MRVC)-East Division meeting 42-0. “It hit my shoulder – or my bicep – and it hit my face back into the air,” Cringan recalled. “And I caught the ball, ran for, like, what, 3, 5 yards?” When this reporter guessed that the distance of the interception return would get longer over time, Cringan replied with a laugh: “Yeah, I hope so.” Intercepting a pass as a lineman is “the best feeling you can ever get, especially when it’s thrown toward you,” Cringan said.
