Richmond male grapplers hold off Warriors
RICHMOND – The Spartans “need to wrestle better” than they did during their 42-36 Jan. 13 home win over St. Pius X of Kansas City as they head into the home stretch of the varsity boys season, Richmond coach Cody Hogan said.
“We (have) just got to be better about everything,” Hogan said.
The Spartans wrestled well enough to win four matches by pin. In the 145-pound match, Elijah Sanders finished off Thomas Burns in 56 seconds. Mason Covey pinned Maddox Chenoweth in 58 seconds at 160 –
Covey’s second match in that division, he said.
“My first one was a loss, which I wish it wasn’t – lost by two points,” Covey said. “The second one was (a win by) pin, so that’s a good thing.”
Aidan Ivison pinned Ty Ward in 1:31 at 182.
