LAWSON – Gallatin denied Richmond a third straight Lawson Invitational title in boys basketball. On Jan. 16, Richmond faced Gallatin in the Lawson High School gym for the tournament title – the third straight season the teams faced off in the championship game. The Spartans, who defeated the Bulldogs 51-33 in 2019 and 60-50 in 2020, were in position for a threepeat at halftime, leading 30-24. But then, with Richmond leading 32-24, the Bulldogs took control by staging an 11-0 third-quarter run. The Spartans vainly tried to catch up, falling 65-56. “I know we scored a lot of points in the first half, but I didn’t think we played very well – and I thought that’s kind of where the game got away from us because we let them stick around,” Richmond coach Kevin Jermain said.
