Richmond girls tumble to Panthers; fence in Chicks
LAWSON – Richmond varsity girls basketball coach Chad Snyder has a goal he wants his Spartans to achieve this week at the 28th annual Lawson Invitational Basketball Tournament.
“I told the girls, ‘Obviously, everybody’s goal is to win the tournament, but if we don’t win it, then I want to go 2-1,’” Snyder said Jan. 7. “And I think that’s (a) very realistic goal for us.”
For two-plus quarters of Richmond’s 62-29 tournament-opening loss to undefeated North Platte Tuesday at Lawson High School, the Spartans threatened to get the first of those two victories. The Panthers bolted to a 5-0 lead, but the Spartans made it a onepoint ballgame twice before North Platte finished the first quarter leading 11-7.
The Spartans claimed their biggest lead, 20-15, by staging a 13-4 secondquarter run. Richmond trailed 23-22 at halftime.
Richmond threatened to take control early in the second half, as Kaylee Pugh and Lexi Bokarae each provided a twopoint bucket to make it 26-23 Spartans. But North…
