Richmond girls fall to open Husker Classic

HIGGINSVILLE – Richmond varsity basketball coach Kaylee Vantrump saw improvement in her Spartans during their 42-24 loss to Odessa Monday night in the Husker Classic. Vantrump, however, would like to see more improvement. Compared to their performance during their season-opening loss Nov. 27 to Lawson, the Spartans “did a better job of getting to help side in our defense and just going up strong” during their 18-point loss to the Bulldogs in the west gym on the Lafayette County C-1 campus, Vantrump commented. “But we did not do a great job of boxing out,” she added. “And we just continue to make the same mistake over and over and over again.” Senior Laney Moyer saw improvement compared to the season opener, too. Richmond played better defensively, Moyer said. Still, the Spartans “have a lot of improvements to make” in such areas as “slowing down and trying to keep the ball,” Moyer said.
