Richmond boys show ‘district mentality,’ rout Tigers

OAK GROVE – The Spartans showed their “district mentality” during their 72-37 thumping of Excelsior Springs on Tuesday at Oak Grove High School in the Class 4 District 15 Tournament, Richmond varsity boys basketball coach Kevin Jermain said. “You could see our guys really amp it up and really focus in and (be) ready to go tonight,” Jermain said. “And the result was really good.” Seniors Keyshaun Elliott and Spencer Wolf agreed the Spartans were dialed in from the tipoff. “We really played hard, especially … (when) the starters were in,” Elliott said. “This whole week, everybody’s been really focused, and I felt like we just came out with a lot of energy,” Wolf said. “And (our) shots were falling and everybody was doing what they needed to do.” The amped-up Spartans converted their attitude into points.
