RHS kicks off fall sports with Meet the Spartans
On Aug. 25, vehicles poured into the parking lot around the Branded Outdoor Theatre, as folks got glimpses of Richmond High School’s fall sports student-athletes.
And saw a few dance routines performed by current and future cheerleaders.
And heard a few tunes from the marching band.
Known as Meet the Spartans, the sports-themed extravaganza included a short processional from Dear Elementary School to the theater. It also included some remarks by Matt Habermehl, district activities director; and Brandon Quick, high school principal.
Following a cheerleading routine, softball coach Staci Maddux introduced her team. Maddux pointed out that the Spartans had swept their three preseason jamboree scrimmages the week before at Polo.
“The girls played pretty well,” she said.
Maddux also mentioned that the Spartans were scheduled to open that weekend with a tournament at Cameron. The girls were “ready to play,” she said.
“I think they’re tired of practicing,” Maddux said.
