TOP ’DOG Hardin-Central’s Kalel Bowman was the top dog this weekend – more than once. On May 10, Bowman won the boys 100-meter dash and ran on the Bulldogs’ champion boys 400 and 800 relay teams at Class 1 District 7 competition at Lafayette County of Higginsville. The wins occurred a day before he was named high school valedictorian for Hardin-Central’s class of 2025. Bowman was one of two individual Hardin-Central boys champions, the other being sophomore Brody Fifer. Fifer, who also ran on the champion relay teams, won the 200 in 22.67 seconds. With the individual and relay wins, Bowman and Fifer qualified for Class 1 Sectional 4 competition, scheduled for Saturday at Mound City. Per Missouri State High School Activities Association regulations, the top four finishers in each event advanced. Fifer led the Hardin-Central boys by qualifying in four events.
