IN PICTURES: GAME ON, THEN OFF, THEN ON AGAIN

First, Richmond’s varsity baseball season hovered in limbo because of the weather. Then, it hung in limbo because of a deficit to Marshall. Finally, it ended because of rally by Marshall. The Spartans’ final game was Monday – a 3-2 loss to the Owls at Excelsior Springs in the Class 4 District 13 Tournament. Marshall went up 1-0 in the bottom of the fourth inning before play was halted by a downpour. After the downpour had subsided, the Spartans tied it in the sixth, when Conner Rodenberg scored on a passed ball. They went ahead in the top of the seventh, when Jacob Lieberknecht scored off Ricky Russ’ base hit. A two-run double in the bottom of the seventh gave Marshall the game-tying and game-winning runs and put the Owls in the tournament semifinals. Here are images of the Spartans in action, passing the time while waiting for play to resume and in action again, captured by sports editor Shawn Roney.
