OT work, family tradition fuel RHS at districts

CHILLICOTHE – Richmond’s girls 400-meter relay team put in some overtime to claim the winning time, 51.12 seconds, at Class 3 District 8 competition May 13 at Chillicothe High School. “We worked on our handoffs constantly this past week,” said junior Kaylee Pugh, who ran the leadoff leg. “And it paid off.” The team didn’t just practice during the track and field program’s allotted training time, according to Sydney Appleberry, who ran the second leg. “Just about every practice, we stayed after and worked (on) several handoffs,” said Appleberry, a junior. That work ethic was in keeping with how Pugh, Appleberry and teammates Brook Weber and Cheyenne Pruitt have trained all season, according to Richmond varsity coach David Rash. “They probably spend the most time out of anybody – that group of relay girls, working on their handoffs – and they looked pretty smooth today,” Rash said. “It paid off.” Honing those handoffs not only paid off with an event victory, but also by clinching…
