Orrick fields new team
ORRICK – Coach Mitch Comstock starts over this season with Orrick’s golf program.
All Bearcats who played in 2021 have graduated, including his son, Dylan Comstock, last season’s Class 1 state champion, now a first-year men’s golfer at Park University in Parkville; and Bishop Grimm, a state qualifier last season and the nephew of retired sports editor Russ Green.
“I have seven all brand-new golfers,” Comstock said March 17 at the Excelsior Springs Golf Course, Orrick’s home course.
Those seven include three girls. Senior Lauren Cox is among them. Her decision to pursue golf met two needs – one of Comstock’s, one of hers.
“He said he needed a senior for his team,” Cox said. “And I needed something to do for the spring … semester.”
Having played volleyball and swum, Cox finds golf “interesting.”
“Definitely different,” she said.
Orrick’s four boys golfers include firstyear Jeffrey Singleton.
“I see golf as a challenge,” he said. “I hear that it’s very hard and I love challenges…
