Old-school move helps Teat win MRVC East tourney title
RICHMOND – Conner Teat used a “kind of old” move to help him win 120-pound title Jan. 16, when he and fellow Spartans hosted the Missouri River Valley Conference East Division boys wrestling tournament.
Facing Lexington’s Josh Payne in his final match of the round-robin competition, Teat repeatedly wrestled with his back to Payne as he used the Peterson roll to score the points he would need to break a 4-4 tie and secure a 12-6 decision.
“It’s probably my second-favorite move,” Teat said. “It’s a five-point move. You just reach, grab the leg and an arm and you just kind of sit out with it. I like it. Any time it’s there, I hit it.”
One reason the Peterson roll is effective is because “nobody really learns how to defend it,” he said. “Once you’ve got it locked up, there’s only about one or two things you can do besides (get) put to your back.”
Before getting the decision over Payne, Teat pinned Holden’s Logan Yoder at 1 minute, 22 seconds. Overall, Teat said he felt “very happy”…
