New H-C boys coach optimistic about season, despite limited reps

HARDIN – The coronavirus pandemic has limited new Hardin-Central varsity boys basketball coach Brent Behler’s time with his Bulldogs. Behler, who was hired this spring to replace Kirk Thacker and joins the program after stints at Windsor and Crest Ridge, ran a few summer camps for the ballclub, he said Nov. 13 by phone. Usually, Behler offers a more rigorous offseason that includes team summer camps, weight training and summer shootout games. Because of the limited offseason reps, the Bulldogs “didn’t get to develop any chemistry as a team running the new system this summer against any opponents or anything,” Behler said. Then, when winter sports practices kicked off the first week of November, the Bulldogs got in a few face-toface sessions before COVID-19 limited them to virtual training through Nov. 20.
