Unlike some seniors, Richmond’s Hunter Mitchell has his post-high school plans set when he graduates in May 2024. Mitchell plans to attend Pratt (Kan.) Community College, where he’ll also play baseball. On Nov. 17, he signed his letter of intent in the Richmond High School gym to be a pitcher/shortstop for the Beavers. By signing now, Mitchell will be emotionally loose when he suits up for Richmond again in the spring, he said. “It doesn’t make me more worried about getting a scholarship or anything like that,” said Mitchell, who’s undecided on a major. The signing was part of a short ceremony that included a few comments from former Richmond varsity baseball skipper Nick Persell, who coached Mitchell for three seasons. In his first season with the Spartans, Mitchell was already an impact player, according to Persell. “(In) any sport, that’s tough, especially in this one,” he said. “(That’s a) testament to all the work he put in in the summertime.” Afterward, Persell explained…
